University Medical Center Freiburg - International Medical Service (IMS)
The University Medical Center Freiburg is a full-service hospital covering the whole spectrum of medical conditions from ophthalmology and oncology to cardio- and neurosurgery. Based on one of Germany’s most distinguished educational institution – the University of Freiburg with its over 555 years of history – the University Medical Center Freiburg is one of the largest teaching hospitals in Europe with a worldwide reputation for quality and distinction.
Five Nobel Prize winners for achievements in medical science have worked here.
The University Medical Center Freiburg comprises 1,600 beds and treats 65,000 inpatients and 380,000 outpatients annually. The hospital consists of 14 specialized clinics, numerous institutes and interdisciplinary centers (such as, for example, the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg, the International Pancreas Carcinoma Center, the Prostate Center Freiburg). It is the largest German hospital certified by the KTQ (Cooperation for Quality and Transparency in Healthcare).
In order to cater to the specific needs of foreign patients and their families, a special department – International Medical Services (IMS) – was established by the hospital’s board of directors in 2000. IMS provides clients with cost estimates, visa invitation letters, schedule medical appointments, provide interpreters, make travel arrangements, and simply help where help is needed.
